War & the Media: The Views from the Social Sciences:
Harold Lasswell, an early media scholar who studied propaganda in the Second World War, posed a question which summarizes social scientific investigation of mass media. The question is: Who says what to whom in which medium with what effect? This is known as the narrative model of mass communication.
