“The Art of Becoming a Skillful Teacher: Technique, Insight and Awareness”

A presentation with breakout sessions by:
Dr. Stephen Brookfield
Distinguished University Professor,
University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis-St. Paul

Dr. Stephen D. Brookfield, a Distinguished Professor at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN, and former professor in the Department of Higher Education and Adult Education at the Teachers College, Columbia University will share his experiences, expertise, and introspection regarding what comprises “skillful teaching” and how it translates into classroom practice.

Topics under this umbrella include: the importance of understanding how different students experience learning; how we as university faculty respond to that; what student value and appreciate in teachers; engaging students actively in the leaning process, and typical rhythms of learning.  Dr. Brookfield will share two practice-based modules with us involving areas of meaningful class discussion with active student participation, measuring student learning and success, and developing critical thinkers.
