Mission & Goals

The mission of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is to provide support and strategic planning in conjunction with university offices, faculty and students at CSU Stanislaus.

The goals of the office are as follows:
  • Promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research.
  • Increase the organizational research support infrastructure.
  • Create strategies to identify and develop university research and program strengths.
  • Organize information and communication channels with other parts of the CSU Stanislaus campus and with outside funding agencies.
  • Celebrate the successes of faculty, staff, and student research, scholarship and creative activities.
  • Demonstrate how research/projects contribute(s) to quality teaching and learning, enables faculty to stay current in their field, and prepares students.

Assistant Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs
Dr. Juan Carlos Morales

As the AVP for Research and Sponsored Programs, Dr. Juan Carlos Morales provides leadership for academic excellence to ensure successful program administration. He is responsible for securing extra-mural funding that contributes to institutional priorities and supports faculty and students in their research, scholarship, and creative activities. Dr. Morales, working in collaboration with the colleges and grant and contract specialists, provides supporting activities that include funding searches, pre-award grant development, and post-award grant administration. He also serves as liaison with community agencies in envisioning and developing joint funding projects related to the University's mission of commitment to the region.

Dr. Morales brings extensive experience and expertise to the CSU Stanislaus. Dr. Morales’ educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University, an M.S. in Biology from Angelo State University, and a B.S. in Biology from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His experience includes Program Director at the National Science Foundation while holding rank as an Associate Research Scientist and Adjunct Faculty at Columbia University, Center for Environmental Research and Conservation. Dr. Morales has been instrumental in securing grants from federal and state agencies, corporations, and foundations, such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Center of Environmental Research and Conservation.
