EPT Exemption Criteria for CSU Stanislaus
You are exempt from the EPT if you can provide documented proof of one of the following:
  • A score of 550 or above on the verbal section of the College Board SAT I: Reasoning Test taken April 1995 or later; or a score of 470 or above if taken between March 1994 and March 1995; or
  • A score of 680 or above on the College Board SAT II: Writing Test taken May 1998 or later; or a score of 660 or above if taken between April 1, 1995 and April 1, 1998; or a score of 600 or above if taken between January 1994 and March 1995; or
  • A score of 600 or above on the College Board Achievement Test in English Composition with essay taken before January 1994; or
  • A score of 24 or above on the ACT English Test taken October 1989 or later; or a score of 22 or above if taken before October 1989; or
  • A score of 3, 4, or 5 on either the Language and Composition or Literature and Composition examination of the College Board Advanced Placement Program; or
  • A score of 4 or above on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination, Area A: English Composition; or
  • A score of 50 or above on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Freshman College Composition test; or
  • A score on the English Equivalency Examination that qualifies the student for pass for credit or exemption before July 1993; or
  • Successful completion, with a grade of C- or better, and transfer to the CSU, of a college course that satisfies the lower division, General Education requirement in English Composition (Area A2). The couse must be successfully completed by the time the student enters the university. Course equivalents at local community colleges are: MJC, Engl 101; San Joaquin Delta, Engl 1A; Merced, Engl 1A; Columbia, Engl 1A. Students who are currently taking a course that satisfies this requirement and who expect to earn a final grade of C- or better by the time they enter the university, will be considered temporarily exempt from EPT testing if they present proof of enrollment in that course at New Student Orientation. Two copies of official transcripts confirming the passing grade are required to consider the EPT exemption process complete.
Additional Score Report Information
If you need a copy of your EPT and/or ELM scores:

On a piece of paper write your request for a duplicate copy of your scores and
  • Print your first and last name
  • Your mailing address
  • Your social security number
  • The month & year you took your test
  • Be sure you sign your request.
Include a check or money order for $10 made payable to
"ETS - EPT/ELM"
