| When are parking permits required? |
 |
| Permits are required Mondays through Fridays from 7:00am until 10:00pm. This includes in between semesters.
The following parking areas are enforced 24 hours daily:
- Red Curbs/Fire Lanes
- 15 Minute time zones
- Service/Maintenance Stalls
- White and Yellow Curbs
- Disabled permit parking stalls

| Is my semester permit valid in parking meter spaces? |
 |
| No. Meters are enforced during the same hours/days of the week/year that parking permits are required. Students are welcome to use the metered spaces, but the rates must be paid during enforcement hours. |

| Is there a “grace period” for parking at the beginning of each semester? |
 |
| Yes. A 3 day grace period. However, we encourage you to begin displaying your permit on the first day. On the fourth day, permit parking enforcement is fully activated. |

| What if I use a different car or forget to bring my parking permit? |
 |
| It is common for students to temporarily change vehicles and, as a result, forget their parking permit. If this happens, you simply stop by one of the Daily Permit Machines and purchase a day permit. Metered parking is also available. |

| Does a permit guarantee me a parking space? |
 |
| Purchase of a parking permit allows you to park on campus on a first-come first-serve basis. |
 |
| What if my parking permit is lost or stolen do I get a free replacement? |
 |
| No. Parking permits are your personal property just like books, calculators, etc. To replace a permit you will have to pay a $10 fee at the Cashiers office, bring your receipt to Public Safety and fill out a Lost or Stolen Permit form. |

| What should I do if I put money into the meter and it doesn’t work? |
 |
| If the meter doesn’t register your money or you pull into an out of order meter, call our office 667-3114 right away to notify us. We will not ticket you for a period of up to one hour. |

| What should I do if I have to park my vehicle overnight? |
 |
| If you are not a dorm resident and must leave your vehicle parked overnight on weekends in a lot other than the dorm parking, call our office 667-3114 right away to notify us. If your vehicle will be parked overnight during weekdays you must purchase an extended daily permit (anywhere from two to five days) from any permit machine on campus. |

| My leg is in a cast and I can’t walk from the parking lot. What can I do? |
 |
| Any disability, either permanent or temporary that precludes your walking for distances should be discussed with Disabled Student Services (667-3159). Upon verification of the length of your disability, you may be issued a temporary permit allowing you to park close to the inner campus. |

| I drive a motorcycle, where can I park? |
 |
| If you have a motorcycle permit you must park in motorcycle parking. If you have a regular permit on your motorcycle you may park in regular parking stalls. |

| What happens if I don’t pay my tickets? |
 |
| Parking tickets which are not paid within 21 days from the date of issue or 14 days from the date of the reminder notice will be subject to increased penalties, to include a placement of a hold against the vehicle registration at Department of Motor Vehicles. |

| I received a ticket and don’t feel I deserve it. What can I do? |
 |
| Parking citations must be appealed within 21 days from the date of issue or 14 days from the date of the reminder notice. If you do not appeal within the set time frames you lose your right to contest the citation. |

| Why was my car towed from campus? |
 |
Vehicles may be towed or impounded if any of (but not limited to) the following conditions exist:
- The vehicle has accumulated a total of five (5) unpaid citations.
- The vehicle is illegally parked and/or appears to be abandoned or left unattended.
- The vehicle registration is expired in excess of six months.

| What can I do to obtain a report? |
 |
| You can contact UPD dispatch at 667-3114 or by e-mail public_safety@csustan.edu to request a report. |

| How do I report a criminal activity? |
 |
| In case of an emergency dial 9-1-1 or use the emergency blue light located around campus, for a non-emergency dial 667-3911 or stop by the University Police Department and speak to someone in person or fill out a on-line crime tip form. |

| What is the University's Policy on Alcohol? |
 |
| Anyone over the age of 21 can possess and consume alcoholic beverages in his/her residence only, and cannot provide alcohol to anyone who is under 21 years of age. Open containers of alcohol are not allowed outside the Residential Life Village unless you are at an event that holds a valid alcohol use permit. |

| What should I do if I am involved in a traffic accident on campus? |
 |
| If you are involved in an injury traffic accident, contact the University Police as soon as possible at 667-3911. Be prepared to tell the dispatcher where the accident occurred, whether or not there are any injuries, how many vehicles are involved, and the colors and types of the vehicles, and any other relevant information. A police officer will respond and investigate the accident. If it's a non-injury accident, please move your vehicle to a safe location. If you want a police report for insurance purposes you may call the University Police. |

| How do the University Police handle skateboarding? |
 |
| Skateboards are an acceptable means of transportation on the campus and are to be used for that purpose. Skateboarding on steps, landscaping planters, picnic tables and other University property causes damage and therefore is prohibited. |

| What do I do if I am receiving harassing phone calls or emails? |
 |
| If you live on campus you should contact the University Police Department at 667-3114, and provide us with complete details about the calls. Information such as how often, the duration of the calls, the times of the calls, what the caller is saying or not saying, and if they have threatened you in any way. If you wish, a Police Officer will respond to your location and take a complete report about the harassment you are receiving, and give you information and options about how to handle this problem. Some tips to help handle this situation are: don't talk to the caller, hang up the phone, unplug the phone, blow a loud whistle in the receiver of the phone, and request to change your telephone number. You can also notify your Resident Assistant about the situation. |

| When are officers on duty? |
 |
| Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be reached by calling 667-3114 or by walking inside the University Police building. |

| How and when can I contact a dispatcher on duty? |
 |
| Dispatchers can be reached at 667-3114 and are available 7 days a week, 7am - 11pm. |

| What is a Live Scan? |
 |
| A Live Scan is a way to take fingerprints, which are then digitalized and transmitted directly to the Department of Justice (DOJ) then checks the fingerprints against known criminal history records. A response (criminal history or no criminal history) is then sent to the agency requesting the Live Scan. If an applicant has no criminal history a response should be sent from the DOJ to the requesting agency in approximately 3 to 7 days. Occasionally it can take longer. |

| What is required when I come in for fingerprints? |
 |
| Valid photo ID is required, for example your drivers license or passport. Accepted method of payment is cash or credit card. Applicable live scan form or fingerprint cards must be present at the time of service. |

| Are weapons allowed on campus? |
 |
| No, weapons are not allowed on campus. This includes guns, slingshots, ammunition, long knives, etc. |

| Are pets allowed on campus? |
 |
| Yes, however, they MUST be kept on a leash at all times. No pets are allowed in buildings, with the exception of support animals for people with disabilities. |

| How do I know if school is closed for the day due to weather? |
 |
| If the University is closed for the day due to inclement weather, there will be a campus-wide announcement through email. You may also check the Alert Hotline at 1-877-STAN-411. |

| Do you provide shuttles? |
 |
Public Safety provides shuttles
Safety Transport At Night "S.T.A.N."
Mondays through Thursdays during semesters from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
Call 667-3114 for a shuttle. |

| Do you provide vehicle unlock service and vehicle jump starts? |
 |
| Public Safety provides vehicle unlocks if you are parked on campus. The vehicle owner must sign a waiver releasing the University from liability due to possible damage resulting from the attempt to unlock your vehicle. |

| How do I report a possible crime and/or information relating to a crime? |
 |
| Public Safety welcomes and encourages community members to report suspicious or possible criminal activity, as well as tips on known crimes. You can report a crime by calling 667-3114 to speak with a police dispatcher. |

| How does the blue phones work? |
 |
| The blue phones are located throughout the campus and alert Public Safety to an emergency. Once a phone is activated by pressing the button, a phone call is immediately made to Public Safety, alerting the dispatcher of the location of the activated phone. The blue light on the phone is activated as well. |

| What do I have to do to drive a university vehicle? |
 |
| In order to drive a University vehicle, you must take a Defensive Driving Course. To retrieve information regarding upcoming courses, contact Public Safety at 667-3114. If you will be driving a vehicle prior to taking the course, you must submit a Defensive Driving Waiver to Public Safety. The waiver will only clear you to drive until the next available course. |
