Course description

An introduction to fiction, poetry, and drama.
Satisfies G.E. area C2. 
You will enjoy this General Interest course; there is no prerequisite for it.

Course Objectives:

Expose students to a wide variety of literary production
Introduce variety of ways in which literary language use matters to daily life

Student Learning Objectives:

Identify tropes, generic conventions, and representational techniques
Understand, utilize, and evaluate research materials
Understand and perform MLA citational form
Demonstrate understanding of historical situations of language
Perform close readings and oral performance of literary texts
Develop and produce an interpretive essay

Graded Activities:

Participation and Quizzes: 10%; Final Exam: 10%; Eight Projects: 80% (10% each). 

You must pass a minimum of 5 (five) Projects and the Final Exam to pass the course.  However, mathematically it is nearly impossible to pass the course doing only five projects and the final. 

Expect a quiz on reading content and discussion topics every week. 

No make-ups will be allowed for any activity except in extraordinary circumstances.   If you find yourself in an extraordinary circumstance, please contact the instructor as soon as possible.
