| California State University, Stanislaus students overwhelmingly approved a referendum to fund construction of a new student recreation complex including a fitness center and collegiate level stadium. The new state-of-the-art fitness and recreation facilities will support unparalleled intramural, athletic, and student programs.
For maximum access, the project will be located in the northeast corner of campus at the corner of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway.
Design work is completed and the construction of the student-fee-supported Student Recreation Complex will begin on Nov. 5, 2007. The project will include a new fitness center (18,500 square feet), track and soccer field with stadium seating, press box, restrooms, parking and landscape.
The Fitness Center will include a fitness room, aerobic space, locker rooms, and a multi-purpose court for student use. Intramural fields will be lighted for expanded recreation hours. The track and soccer field with stadium seating and press box will help the University maintain a competitive facility for games and meets.
Addition of a lighted intramural field will provide CSU Stanislaus with its first dedicated facility for that program. Participation in intramurals has increased dramatically with the University's steady enrollment growth and improved student generated recreation programs.
The $16.1 million development and intramural field will total approximately 24 acres.
