CSU Stanislaus is pleased to announce our Early Class Selection (ECS) program for all incoming freshman! This program was designed to ensure that new students would be placed in the appropriate courses for their first semester at our University. The program strives to eliminate the stress of the class selection process often felt by new students as they try to adapt to college life.

Students’ schedules will be created by trained academic schedulers who will personally contact students for their schedule preferences and any constraints they may have such as time, days of the week, work and other obligations. Students will only be placed in classes that will meet graduation requirements, including general education and major prerequisites. Also it is important to note that these particular pre-selected classes are not permanent in the sense that amendments may be made at orientation or a later date of your discretion to accommodate for new adjustments not previously known or accounted for.

Students will be contacted prior to their assigned orientation date and will receive their completed schedules on the day of orientation. We look forward to assisting you throughout the process and will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Research shows that students who are part of a learning community and a FYE program do better in their classes, are more active on campus, make friends more easily and get to know faculty more personally than students who do not join such a program. The FYE program provides these benefits for you.

In the First-Year Experience (FYE) Program, you have the opportunity to join a learning community with 24 other new students. The classes in the learning community are integrated around an interesting theme and linked to a seminar that will prepare you to be successful in your classes and will encourage you to get involved on campus. The seminars are co-taught by faculty and peer leaders, successful CSU Stanislaus students who serve as mentors.
For Fall 2008, you can choose from thirteen learning communities. Eleven of them are for all students, the twelfth is specificly designed for student athletes, and the thirteenth is for Liberal Studies majors. All the courses in each learning community fulfill General Education requirements that are required of all students.
